Revival
Anchor Scripture for November 10
3 Once we, too, were foolish and disobedient. We were misled and became slaves to many lusts and pleasures. Our lives were full of evil and envy, and we hated each other. 4 But—When God our Savior revealed his kindness and love, 5 he saved us, not because of the righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He washed away our sins, giving us a new birth and new life through the Holy Spirit.[a] 6 He generously poured out the Spirit upon us through Jesus Christ our Savior. 7 Because of his grace he made us right in his sight and gave us confidence that we will inherit eternal life. - Titus 3:3-7 NLT
Scriptures
Joel 2:12-32
Acts 2 (emphasis on v36-47)
Titus 3:3-7 NLT
Two highlights for this month:
Individual revival is happening
Won’t you revive us again, so your people can rejoice in you? 7 Show us your unfailing love, O Lord, and grant us your salvation.” Psalm 85:6-7 TLB
God is revealing another dimension of himself to those that are willing to seek him sincerely
“Then as I looked, I saw a door standing open in heaven, and the same voice I had heard before spoke to me like a trumpet blast. The voice said, “Come up here, and I will show you what must happen after this.” - Revelation 4:1 NLT
Just like in past decades, there is another revival happening. It’s not just about new believers coming to Christ, but it’s also for those already in the body of Christ (the church) that are having their eyes opened to the religious traditions and beliefs that hinder spiritual growth as a Christian, the operation of legalism in the church, and lukewarmness. I’m sure many of us have heard the term “revival” used a lot lately, but here are a couple of definitions to help with understanding it.
Definition from Biola University
“A Christian revival is a moment in history when:
The hearts of many of God’s people are awakened to greater love and commitment to Christ
Many who consider themselves Christians (but are not) get converted
Many people who have never known Christ are drawn to faith in Christ through what God is doing in his people.”
Definition by Jonathan Edwards (American revivalist preacher, philosopher, and Congregationalist theologian)
“A rapid acceleration of the normal work of the Spirit, such that what should have happened in decades begins to happen within days.”
Revival for Us
Revival can look different for everyone. For me recently, I have been seeking revival of my daily devotional time, especially in the area of consistency. It’s been a prayer point for the past few weeks, but it wasn’t until this week that I felt a tangible change in my willingness to seek God (prayer, worship, reading my Bible, etc) and my overall productivity.
If you’ve also found that it is hard to be consistent (praying, reading, worshipping, going to church), the good news is that there is always grace available for us to repent (turn from doing one thing) and seek God for help.
“So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.” - Hebrews 4:16 NLT
Prayer Points
Lord, revive me by your Holy Spirit. Revive every area of my spiritual life that has become dead.
Lord, bring revival to my household.
Lord, bring revival to my church, community, and workplace.
Lord, give me a fresh hunger and understanding of your word.
As you revealed yourself to Moses on the mountain, reveal yourself to me.
Open my eyes and deliver me from religious traditions, legalism, false teachings, and spiritual dryness that has kept me from experiencing my true freedom in Christ.
